Family Law Attorney in Humble
Only about a fifth of households in the United States consist of a married couple with minor children. That’s partially due to the aging population, but also partially due to the changing nature of the American family. So, family law issues are the new normal for most households in Humble, Kingwood, Atascocita and Houston. Sometimes existing orders need to be revisited due to current conditions, while other families may need initial orders to start a new life together.
America is also a society on the move. Adults relocate an average of 9.1 times after reaching age 18. Many couples married in another state, move to Humble and surrounding areas, and then find themselves in need of a divorce. If moving back to the prior state and reestablishing residency is not an option, a family law attorney in Houston may be able to assist you.
Welsh Law, PLLC, embraces the new American family. We recognize that most families are struggling with financial and emotional issues, to one degree or another, and I am here to help. Contact me now for your initial consultation. I am committed to helping Southeast Texas residents find lasting solutions to their family law issues through both litigation and mediation.
Dissolution of Marriage
There are several ways to end a marriage in Humble, and our office can help you with all of them.
- Annulment: This procedure basically declares the marriage void, making it as though it never existed. The grounds for annulment are rather limited, so you’ll need to speak with an attorney to find out if it’s an option for you.
- Divorce: Traditional marital divorce poses many hurtles and couples need an attorney experienced with divorce, and one who know the Houston family legal system.
If there are children involved the judge will enter orders that protect and promote the best interests of the children.
Children need a safe and loving environment, regardless of the labels which society may apply. Custody can mean two things in Texas. Conservatorship is basically full-time custody: where the children will live and who makes important decisions. There also may be child visitation issues which may need to be addressed.
Texas determines child support based on a percentage of income. In general terms, the starting line is 20 percent and it increases up to 50 percent, depending on the number of children. Sometimes the judge may take other factors into account when setting the amount.
If you are owed child support, either the Attorney General or a private attorney can file a motion to enforce to get the obligor to pay the support you are owed.
All families deserve access to the courts to resolve their disputes. For a consultation with an attorney who opens doors for you, contact my office. I practice in Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend and other surrounding counties and in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Facing an issue with your family and need an attorney? Are you going through a divorce or separation? Is it taking an emotional toll on you? Do the legal aspects complicate matters for you? Have circumstances changed and you want to modify prior orders?
Unfortunately family law matters are very emotional. Adding the legal aspects can be completely draining. Hiring an attorney to represent you through the legal process allows you to focus on what is most important, your family.
